Global Entrepreneurship Week Video

The week 15th to 21st November 2010, saw the celebration of entrepreneurship across the globe with the UK being an active participant. It was the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), and it was a week to celebrate and motivate entrepreneurial talents. It is estimated that more than 10 million people in 104 countries participated this year, and we personally like their slogan “Make a job, don’t take a job”.

In the UK, participation in the GEW was wide spread from organisations to entrepreneurs all contributing to promote and encourage the spirit behind entrepreneurship (passion, creativity, taking control, making a difference, improving lives etc). Events to promote running and setting up of businesses cannot come at a better time with the current economic situation.

The Labour Market Stats shows that unemployment is down by 0.1%, and according to Minister for Employment Chris Grayling “Unemployment is down and employment is up, which is good news. The private sector is leading the way and creating jobs and opportunities for people across the country” (http://www.hrmguide.co.uk/jobmarket/unemployment.htm).

Consequently, when the London Metropolitan University (LMU) commissioned us, to provide the video coverage of all the various events organised to promote and encourage students into entrepreneurship (as part of their Student Enterprise Programme), we thought it a privilege.

Using HD Cameras, we covered the weeks programme which included talks about ‘iPhone App’s with Milo, various events and interviews, with known entrepreneurs such as Rachel Elnaugh who spoke about the importance of GEW and how more student enterprise should get involved.

We would like to say well done to all those who have participated in some way or the other. And to those who haven’t, there is always next year. Whilst we are already looking forward to next years’ GEW, we will continue to take part in similar events over the year and therefore hope to see you at the ‘Business Start Up Show’ at Earls Court, end of this month.

A few parting words...

Well... it's been a very busy 6 months and a great learning curve; alas, my internship with WDF Productions has come to an end. The re-brand and new website is ready to go live after a lot of hard work from the team, so I will be dissappointed not to be here to see its success. However, that takes nothing away from my experience.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone at WDF and wish them all the success their hard work deserves. I've really enjoyed my time here. The team have been fantastic: Andy, Chris, and Jack are really experienced and have taught me a lot about the industry and the production process and Folake has helped develop my marketing and business skills.

Please check out the new website when it goes live next week and enjoy the new blogs!

So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, adieu

The business place to be: East London Business Place

As the Tesco slogan goes: "Every little helps." And for small businesses facing caps on potential lending due to the ongoing, and forever cloudy financial climate, (see the article in our 'Very KEEN' entry, or this telegraph article... http://tiny.cc/a1s3j. Point proved) it most certainly does.

Hence the ever-increasing importance of 'business support agencies.' Not through lack of competence but on account of the untold levels of effort, energy, and planning it takes to build a business; small business owners tend not to have the time to organise networking events or seek out specialist help. Luckily for them that happens to be the area of expertise of the ELBP (East London Business Place).

ELBP offer their services for free to small to medium enterprises across the 10 East London Boroughs. They provide a face-to-face sourcing and matching service for buyers and suppliers to maximise local business benefit from new developments and commercial precincts in East London.

WDF Productions have attended some of ELBP's workshops and the personalised help and knowledge they provided was fantastic. We felt like we should have been paying for the service. So working with ELBP was a great opportunity for WDF Productions.

WDF Productions worked with ELBP really closely throughout the project to get the right message conveyed in the final product. The short promo film was produced to help build awareness of ELBP so that more SME's across the boroughs can access the different services they offer.

The footage was captured in the Ibis building and De Vere venues at Canary Wharf where the ELBP run their events. Canary Wharf is the hub of business activity in East London so it only seems appropriate that ELBP are based there.

The final edit quite beautifully yet succinctly portrays the ELBP's philanthropic actions and desire to benefit business in East London. The short film will help build awareness of the ELBP and if you own a small business in the area, it can only make you want to be involved with them.

See for yourself...

Two words... Scrumptious & Sexy

With the UN pushing for a global shift towards a vegan diet stating that the vegan diet is vital in saving the world from hunger, fuel poverty and the worst impacts of climate change; it is refreshing to come across recipes which help towards the cause, easy to prepare and absolutely delicious.

It's no surprise that we love this recent production of ours.

The Concept:
The concept of the promotional video was to create a piece which represents SAF Restaurant's passion and commitment to quality food, all for the optimum experience of diners.

Working with SAF restaurant to draw up a concept for the video, chef Matthew Downes decided on a tasty course of 'courgette cannelloni & cashew cheese'. A vegan and raw food aficionado's dream.

The Location:
SAF restaurant in Shoreditch, London - a cool, funky place. It's one of those really chic restaurants, and oh... you can actually watch the chefs at work as the kitchen is situated through glass in the middle of the floor. They have a selection of yummy cocktails too!

The Outcome:

The feel and out come of the promo is one that promotes the restaurant's brand and commitment to innovation.

The promo makes the team at WDF Productions hungry every time we watch it. However, don't take or word for it; check out thie clip below and decide for yourself.

The Mercury Prize 2010

This is the life... This morning WDF attended The Mercury nominee announcement ceremony and we certainly were not left disappointed after being treated to some exceedingly good live performances. Did they play it safe with the nominations after last year?... Maybe but none-the-less a great line up! My money's on Dizzee Rascal but good luck to all of the artists.
